Transplanting

My next door neighbour has a sizeable pond in his backyard where he grows prize-winning lotuses. So many, in fact, I figured he wouldn’t miss one or two, especially if I transplanted them into my house.

In the dark of night with flashlight and shovel, I was waist-deep, roiling the water as I dug out my first target when lights blazed from a submarine that seemingly rose from the depths. Then there was the distinct sound of a PA system warming up. “George, go home”.

‘You have a submarine?’, I yelled.

‘Obviously.’

‘Why?’

‘Theft prevention. Now go home!’
