Story New — They Still Serve That?

Did you know there are still restaurants that serve Haute Cuisine? And that there are still people outraged at discovering five baby corns, three asparagus tips, and a scallop, artfully arranged on a large white plate, cost $50.

‘What’s this?’, they bluster.

‘The chef’s menu du jour’, the waiter answers, who then proceeds to describe, in painstaking detail, what is on the plate.

‘How can this cost $50?’, they say, as their stomachs yearn for a juicy cheeseburger with fries.

And of course there are required tips, taxes, fees, and other miscellaneous overhead charges.

Both Stomach and wallet leave empty.

Laughs were shared around the dinner table, as Chad, home from college for the holidays, told of an exchange on the airplane starting with bluster and ending with humble pie served:

“Sir, you cannot put that bag in the overhead bin. Please place it under the seat in front of you.”

“I’m an American! I can put this bag in the overhead bin! It’s my right! I paid for my seat and my bag goes in that bin!”

“Sir, if you don’t comply with my instructions, I’ll have you removed from the flight.”

Meekly, he did as he was told.
