Story 1 — Pep Talk
“I am the master of my life. I’m successful. I’m smart. People like me. And no matter what happens, nothing will have changed about who I am.”
Jerry’s face in the bathroom mirror looked unconvinced.
The problem was that this pep talk hadn’t occurred before he’d arrived at the restaurant. Another was that his blind date, Cheryl… was that her name?… was waiting. The last was that the soup had arrived and he’d panicked.
It was entirely possible he’d capture any inadvertent spills with his napkin, but wouldn’t that be kinda gross.
Time to run through the pep talk again.

Story 2 — Art Project

The almost-great art master Boris contemplated his creative accomplishments.
The hanging of drapery from a local footbridge? Check.
Decorating his shower tile with coloured chalk, then photographing it as it ran down the walls? Check.
Something to do with food? Not checked. Yet.
That would change today.
The guy who’d duct taped a banana to a wall was brilliant.
What about doing something entirely different. With an apple.
Nah.
Or creating a mess in the kitchen, then capturing it with oils on cardboard?
Nah.
What about using a white napkin and eating Italian?
Oh yeah.
Crack open the sauce.
