Under the glow of a full moon, Charlie’s car had decided it was done with life, coming to rest on the side of the lonely road that cut through the heart of the desert. At least it’d gotten him to the gig; home wasn’t in the cards.

‘Look, I’m not a religious man, but if anyone’s listening, I’d appreciate some help. Please.’

It’s midnight and I’m talking to cacti. Heat’s addling my brains.

But something answered.
