Learning To Say "Thank You"

Prompts = Whale, Skate, Dock

When Floyd was young, if he’d considered his inability to swim, he might’ve reconsidered roller skating alone on the unlit dock at midnight. Second thoughts would’ve prevented his falling into deep water and nearly drowning.

But he wouldn’t have been rescued in dramatic and life-altering fashion.

Despite evidence to the contrary, Floyd would insist a whale had risen from the depths and pushed him to shallow water and safety.

Thankful to be alive, Floyd wanted to thank his rescuer. In fluent Whale. Which is what he wrote on his college application for a linguistics and marine biology double major.
