“If we have the technology to land a man on the Moon, why can’t…?”, then fill in the blank. There’s literally thousands of things my Dad thinks should happen because Neil Armstrong got moon dust on his boots.
Somehow, the Apollo missions formed not only the foundation, but the promise, of a perfect wonder-filled future. But for him, that promise is broken daily in numerous ways, big and small.
Today the weather forecast on his smartphone app wasn’t entirely accurate. Yesterday Netflix was down for a few hours. Who knows how the future will disappoint him tomorrow.
Poor guy.

Story 2 — Those Pesky Instructions
Photo by Toa Heftiba on Unsplash
‘I’m Julie and this is Cooking With Julie. Hello, who’s on the line?’
‘Hi Julie. I got one of these newfangled convection ovens that’s supposed to perfectly prepare whatever you put in it. I can’t say I’m impressed; my buns burned so bad I’ll be selling ’em as barbecue briquettes. What am I doing wrong?’
‘Caller, I’m betting you thought the promise of technology was at your fingertips and so those pesky instructions got tossed in the garbage. Before you decorate the house you have to have a good foundation, which means you need to rescue and read that booklet.’
