Condimentology

As a child, items on my dinner plate needed to be separate. Nothing could touch another item.

But I ate things like spaghetti and meatballs. How?, you ask. Because they were served that way.

My mom hoped I’d grow out of it. Which didn’t happen. So she introduced me to cooking.

I still remember my first time with hamburgers. Should I serve them plain or with a swirl of condiment? I was so nervous as I held the ketchup bottle. Should the brown meat be invaded by tomatoey red? My choice, she said.

That’s how I got interested in condimentology.
