Every year, my dad buys the biggest Christmas tree he can find at our local “cut-your-own”, and gets it onto the roof of the car with a shouted “3–2–1-Heave!”.
One year, the car broke down. Dad, undaunted, said, “Let’s take the bus”. We got there fine. But stuffing eight feet of conifer into a packed bus… you can imagine.
Once the bus got moving, Dad acted quickly: he pulled a star out of his pocket, stuck it on top of the tree, and started belting out carols.
He had everyone singing along in no time.
