I knocked. A tall lanky man holding a clipboard answered. ’And you are?’, he said, looking down, as if the clipboard would answer for me.

‘Sam’, I said.

‘Are you wise, Sam?’, he asked, smiling cheekily.

‘Sure’, I replied. Then when he frowned, I added, ‘Frodo.’

‘Gandalf is preferred.’

Would sharing an apartment with this guy be tolerable?

‘Do you drive?’, he asked.

‘Yes. Don’t we all?’

‘I can. But I don’t.’

And then came a series of questions testing the depth and breadth of my knowledge.

I left and passed a guy named Leonard coming up the stairs.
