Draw, Conquer, Performance

Timmy “Two-Tone” Timmons stood on the stage with the other contestants. His performance had been honed over weeks of practice and busking. He’d conquered, he’d slayed; the audience had gone wild. Now it was up to the judges.

The tension in the Newport High School auditorium was thick. Timmy couldn’t stop bouncing on his toes. Others on stage wrung hands, whispered with neighbours, or quietly prayed.

The squeal from the PA system brought everyone’s attention to the Head Judge. He tapped the mic, cleared his throat, and made the usual judge-like speech. Finally, he said, “It’s a draw!”
